Lessons and legacy from Miami-Dade’s Supporting Safer Communities Program 2023-2025

The Supporting Safer Communities (SSC) Program, administered by The Carrie Meek Foundation (CMF) in partnership with Miami-Dade County, was launched in April 2023 to address persistent gun violence through a community-centered approach. The program distributed approximately $8.9 million in five areas: 2 noncompetitive grants with the Children’s Village and the Mellisa Institute, a grant with two capacity building consultants, administrative expenses by the Carrie Meek Foundation, the Peace and Prosperity Scholarship with 132 recipients, and $7.15 million in grants to 82 organizations, prioritizing four service areas: High-Risk Interventions, Reentry Services, Mental Health and Victim Outreach, and Grassroots Groups.

The Invisible Victims

A Gendered Focus on Gun Violence in Miami-Dade County

A groundbreaking new report from The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade, The Invisible Victims: A Gendered Focus on Gun Violence in Miami-Dade County, uncovers the alarming and underreported impact of gun violence on women and underserved communities in South Florida. Unlike national reports that provide broad trends, this report reveals how gun violence plays out in Miami-Dade County specifically, highlighting critical gaps in data, disparities in victimization, and shortcomings in public policy.
